About the ISA
The International Symbol of Access:
The International Symbol of Access (ISA) was adopted in 1969 and registered with the International Standards Organisation "to identify, mark or show the way to buildings and facilities that are accessible to and usable by all persons whose mobility is restricted." In 1993, the Trust undertook responsibility for managing the display of the ISA in New Zealand on behalf of the DPA (NZ) Inc., (the Assembly of People with Disabilities).
The minimum levels of provision in building design that the symbol represents are:
- A barrier-free approach to and within the building
- Accessible parking (if any)
- An accessible entrance
- Accessible and usable facilities
- Accessible and usable toilets
Please contact one of our Barrier Free Advisors if you are concerned with the display of the ISA.
