Training Education
Training Pathways is the high quality and relevant education programme that the Barrier Free NZ Trust has developed. It is designed for council staff, designers, architects, assessors of disabled people’s environments, and other people who are interested to learn more about the Accessible Journey.
Participants of our Barrier Free Seminars will:
- Increase their skills knowledge and understanding of the Accessible Journey for all people, including people with disabilities.
- Learn about the correct application of the Building Act 2004, Building Code and Compliance Documents, Building Regulations, and NZS 4121:2001 in regards to access
- Learn how to apply theoretical knowledge in practice to the built environment.
Our 2 day seminar is recognised for Continued Professional Development Points by the NZ Institute of Architects and the Building Officials Institute NZ. We are also recognised by the Department of Building and Housing (DBH) for the Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) Scheme. LBPs gain Skills Maintenance points for attending our training modules.
For more information about the specifics of our seminars' recognition for Professional Development Points, see the information below:
Building Officials Institute of NZ (BOINZ)
For BOINZ, the CPD for their industry, as stated on their website, is “the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skill, and the development of personal qualities necessary for the undertaking of professional and technical duties related to working as a Building Officer, Accredited Building Surveyor etc..” BOINZ members receive 8 CPD Points to attend a 2 day Barrier Free seminar and 4 extra points for successfully completing the assessment for Module 4: Assessing the Accessible Journey.
NZ Institute of Architects (NZIA)
The NZIA is contracted by the NZ Registered Architects Board (NZRAB) to maintain a record of activities done by Registered Architects for the purpose of ongoing registration. The record of points activities are then used by the NZRAB as part of their assessment in deciding whether individuals can retain their Registered Architect status. By attending a 2 day Barrier Free Seminar, members will receive 40 CPD Points.
Department of Building and Housing (DBH)
According to the DBH website, the LBP Scheme is licensing for skilled people who take responsibility for the work done in the design and construction of homes and buildings. Occupational licensing will help ensure that people in the building industry who are responsible for the work done are competent and accountable, so that homes and buildings are designed and built right the first time.
