Assessment Criteria

The Barrier Free NZ TrustParticipants are given the opportunity to be individually assessed by the Barrier Free NZ Trust for each module.

Please ensure that you indicate on the registration form if you would like to be assessed, or notify the office prior to the seminar.

Although every participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance for each module, the assessment will indicate whether you are competent in the module.

Module 1: Experiencing the Accessible Journey

In this assessment you will show your understanding of people's experience of the Accessible Journey and its barriers in the built environment.

  • 15 mins – after the first day of the seminar (from 4.30 – 4.45pm).
  • Short answer test.
  • $25 plus GST.

Module 2: The Law, Access and the Accessible Journey

You will show that you understand how the building law and regulations relate to access requirements and the Accessible Journey.

  • 15 mins – after the first day of the seminar (from 4.45 – 5pm).
  • Short answer test.
  • This is an open book assessment. Bring a copy of the Building Act 2004.
  • $25 plus GST.

Module 3: Designing the Accessible Journey

You will demonstrate that you understand how an accessible built environment that complies with the relevant documentation is designed.

  • Assessment to be done at home. (Take about 1 hour.)
  • Reading of a plan of a public building. (Plan will be handed out at the seminar.)
  • $50 plus GST.
  • Must be handed in within 1 month after the seminar

Module 4: Assessment of the Accessible Journey

You will demonstrate that you understand how to assess the Accessible Journey in the built environment using the Barrier Free Checklist and building legislations and guidelines.

  • Trial audit report on the building you have audited in the practical exercise of the seminar.

  • $100 plus GST.
  • Must be handed in within 3 months after the seminar

Certificate of Competence

Seminar attendees will get a Certificate of Competence for the Modules they have successfully completed the individual assessments for.

There will be no marks given on any of the assessments; people will either fail or pass.
